Lady Drinks: The ladies may well (or always do) ask you to buy them a drink. These drinks are called "Lady Drinks" and the girl get a small commission, usually about 25 Baht, but up to 50 Baht, for each drink. This is fair as she spends time talking, however limited her "English", and keeping you company while you visit the bar. She is targeted to get a set amount each month, or her salary is cut. So forgive her for asking - it is part of her job. It is not customary to buy drinks for waitresses, many people do so, but that is up to you. Even if they say "Buy me drink", YOU choose who you buy drinks for!

The latest lever used by the bar owner to extract more money out of you is the "Lady Cocktail Drink". This is the same drink in a champagne glass but cost you about 50 Baht more with the girl getting an extra 10 Baht commission or so. Many bars force the girls to drink Tequila as a lady drink. Many do not like it, but they can quickly finish the drink and then wait for you to buy another or walk away. In July 2008, Club Mistys charges 95 Baht for a standard lady drink, 110 Baht for a Lady Tequila and 150 for a Lady Cocktail, whereas Heaven Above charges 110 for all 3 choices.

In the defence of Tequila, one gogo girl said that she considers it less fattening than several Cola based lady drinks. I do not know if this is calorifically true.

Tips: If you have has good service or just feel in a good mod, the girl will appreciate a Tip of your discretion. Table Dancers make more money from tips than sitting talking to customers. And they supply more entertainment value that way <grin>.

Ping Pong Balls These days, most bars sell Ping Pong balls to customer for them to through to their favourite girl, or just cause heyhem is throwing a bucketful and see the girls fight each other for them. In most places the girl gets 10 Baht of the 20 Baht purchase prices, whereas Peppermint give the full 20 Baht to the girls.

It is interesting that a girl who thinks she is worth 3,000 Baht for a nights entertainment will get scarred trying to get at the balls, and maim herself by jumping off stage for a 10/20 Baht Ping Pong ball. Maybe she realises the true value of money in up-country Thailand.
